My buddy drew a surprise Staff Duty Officer shift on a weekend. Think "24hr babysitting gig" but with more Army stuff. To add insult to injury, his girlfriend was leaving for Cali in a few days. So I took the last fourteen hours for him. Quiet shift, really... Too quiet, even. I spent most of the time cooped up in my office, catching up on paperwork and, ahem, projects.
Fortunately, I was kept company by the Pup. Everyone, please say hello to Carbine. She gets sad when she has to sleep in my office, even if she did get to wander around Post and say hello to everyone.
I've had a bunch of commissars floating around in my to-do pile for weeks.
Steely-eyed hard cores that think Storm Troopers are great fun to lead since they're more disciplined than the usual Guardsmen. For the Scions, a commissar is more an inspirational leader to follow into the fray rather than a figure of fear and loathing. On the table, a Lord Commissar confers a whopping Leadership 9 on models around them, and can blam a goon to prevent the rest from running. Since I'm normally willing to spend Command Points like water to keep the rank and file from running away, they tend not to shoot anyone except the enemy.
This lovely sculpt comes from Anvil Industries. "Screw shooting you, I'm going to punch you with a glove the size of a microwave!" There's an angry, angry man in that armor...
From Victoria Miniatures comes a much more calm and collected model:
The rest of my painting projects for this morning's painting include a Napoleonic War-era Highlander from Victrix, and another squad leader for my stormies... Who also happens to wear a kilt. Maybe not the best thing for an airborne unit to wear, but are you going to argue with a man carrying a sword like that?
Still a good bit of work to do on these, but I'm tired and hungry.
-Six out.
