Campaign For Tavian I: Winter's Onset and The Scouring

The last article I'll run on the Tavian Campaign from MLK Day back in January. Towards the end, the Guard start turning the invasion around, despite the personal leadership of Abaddon the Despoiler.

            Winter’s Onset
6-- Mission: Control The Gate (Vigilus Ablaze pg128)
Wrinkle: Battlezone: Tundric Blizzard (Vigilus Defiant pg155)
Reward: victor: 1 free Troops unit in the next mission; vanquished: +2 CP in the next mission
Under the command of Abaddon, Warmaster of Chaos, the Black Legion breaches the City of Aissur, slaughtering the troops defending the gates. Krassian and Grayson troops scatter before the onslaught. Despite horrific casualties and strike-teams behind their lines, the Chaos forces breach the capital and begin a purge of the civilian population.

            The Scouring
7-- Mission: The Scouring (Big Rule Book),
Wrinkle: Battlezone: Tundric Blizzard (Vigilus Defiant 155)
Reward: the victor receives two free weapons upgrades for a Troops choice.
The 745th leads a stalwart defense of the Capital’s gates, turning back even the Warmaster with disciplined volleys of las-fire. With an Imperial relief fleet arriving in days, the Despoiler’s forces withdraw to continue their pillaging of Imperial systems elsewhere. The 745th begins the process of reconstituting their ranks, and mopping up the Chaos troops left in-system, notably the high-orbital stations and the jungle fastnesses in the equatorial regions.

Final campaign score:
                                  Imperial Guard: 62
                                  Chaos: 54

There was supposed to be ten missions, total, but Liam had to head back to Scotland. No pictures of the match since we were, after all, drinking heavily. Again, a great set of games against a tenacious and sporting opponent. I hope to cross blades with him again soon. After due consultation with my astropaths, the Emperor's Tarot indicates a reckoning between the 745th Grayson Drop Regiment and the Black Legion.

Before he left though, we had a three-player free for all. I did snap a couple of shots of that one, though.

Believe it or not, that's an Ork Warboss in deep, deep thought. I have to credit that lad with introducing D&D concepts to my games. "After all, we should be able to destroy terrain, right?" All armies involved immediately began ignoring each other in favor of blowing up the walls around them and the platforms from beneath their enemy's feet.
Seeing all that unpainted terrain makes me cringe. *Shudders*

Who doesn't enjoy seeing a Possessed Champion go toe-to-toe with an Ork Warboss? Whoever wins, the Imperium profits. Ave Imperator.

 -Six out.
